Tommaso De Pas

A specialist in both internal medicine and oncology, he works primarily as medical oncologist for lung cancers and sarcomas


He authored a number of papers, in particular on:

  • the development of last-generation drugs active in lung-cancer treatment according to the presence of specific gene mutations, such as ALK-gene translocation. For details, see:  NEJM2014Crit Rev  Oncol Hematol2013 , NEJM2033
  • the evaluation of specific treatments and literature review for rare tumors, in particular for sarcomas and neuroendocrine tumors
  • the assessment of communication with patients, in particular within studies aiming at assessing biases, fears and expectations of patients treated within experimental clinical studies  
  • clinical activities

    After graduating summa cum laude in Medicine at 23, in 1994 he contributed to launching the Department of Oncology at the European Institute of Oncology. He participated in the inception of the Division of New Drugs and Clinica Pharmacology and headed the Unit of Medical Oncology of the Respiratory Tract and soft-tissue/bone sarcomas. At present he works for the Division of Thoracic Oncology, where he heads the Unit of Medical Oncology of Soft-Tissue Sarcomas (whatever the site), Pleura and Thymus Tumors. He is a member of several international research groups, advisory boards and steering committees.

    He works in an interdisciplinary clinical setting in continuous and close collaboration with all the physicians involved in the diagnosis and treatment of his field of interest, such as pathologists, radiologists, surgeons and radiation oncologists.
