Give me Five! - Prostate Radiotherapy

Five days. Before that, it used to be eight weeks.

Almost science fiction until just a very few years ago, high-dose prostate radiotherapy can now boast an outstanding result: one whole treatment cycle in just five days.

Prostate cancer can be treated with brief targeted radiotherapy which reaches a very high dose (The total of 35 Gy by the new method is biologically equal to 84 Gy of treatment by the conventional method) if the patient meets certain clinical criteria.
The Advanced Radiotherapy Center of the IEO, inaugurated in 2012, has enabled, through the integration between advanced technology and research, this new treatment to be developed and applied to the first cases.

"Prostate cancer will soon be a treatable disease in the majority of cases with an excellent quality of life for those affected by it. Thanks to early diagnosis and brief, oncologically radical treatments such as five-day robotic radiotherapy, a treatment which places us as first and foremost in Italy and among the first in Europe, we can guarantee a rapid recovery and return to personal, family and working life with minimal side effects”

Umberto Veronesi, Scientific Director of the IEO.
