IEO Women's Cancer Center (WCC) is the first center in Italy dedicated specifically to female tumors. Risk management, early diagnosis, treatment and reintegration into everyday life and daily routine after therapy are covered. It is therefore "a place for women", dedicated to women's health as a whole, both in terms of prevention and treatment.
The ultimate goal is that once you enter the center, all the women’s medical needs will be taken care of.
There are three key words to describe the uniqueness of the Women's Cancer Center: innovation, multidisciplinarity, personalization.
Innovation: with expertise in basic and clinical sciences the WCC doctors are able to offer the most advanced diagnostic and treatment strategies.
As “Being a woman” is the guiding criterion for every choice made within the scope of research and treatment. The advantage of this approach is to better identify similarities between different women's tumors, which can help us design more effective and innovative strategies of prevention and treatment.
Multidisciplinarity is the founding working principle of the Women’s Cancer Center. The woman is at the center with a team of experts bringing together all the necessary expertise in a single center. A friendly atmosphere and an efficient organization provide quick and comprehensive responses to all the needs the woman may encounter during the course of prevention, diagnosis or treatment.
Personalization is a direct consequence of multidisciplinary approach. Each women that enters the WCC will be evaluated by a number of experts in order to obtain the precise diagnosis and to plan a tailored and optimal treatment program.
The IEO Women’s Cancer Center deals with the all-round well-being of each woman including emotional, sexual and working life. It is important that the selected program, be it prevention or therapy allows the women to return to their own individual routine.
With this in mind, the IEO WCC offers various clinics aimed at support programs i.e. acupuncture, eating habits, sexuality, lifestyle, etc.
The IEO Women's Cancer Center is also in a state of continuous evolution in order to offer women increasingly more advanced and personalized programs.
Women who come to the WCC for their prevention measures can also count on several dedicated clinics where important aspects of their everyday lives can be discussed with IEO specialists.
The WCC provides consultancy services for the woman's health care strategy i.e. eating habits, body weight and lifestyle. All factors which have an important role in cancer prevention and control.
Genetic testing: for patients with a personal or family history of cancer or who simply want more information about their genetic risk, the Women's Cancer Center offers the opportunity to discuss personal and family medical history, with a view to greater understanding of the role, advantages and limitations of genetic testing and possible implications for patients and their relatives.
Prevention: every woman can access a preventive program that is appropriate for her age and risk profile created by the teamwork of IEO specialists, and with the highest level of professional expertise.
Similarly, the Women's Cancer Center offers integrated secondary prevention programs in the field of senology and gynecology to ensure the most effective early detection measures and, if necessary, to guide patients towards the most suitable courses of treatment.
Sexuality: cancer can undermine the quality of an individual with various sexual implications. The Women's Cancer Center offers a dedicated space to discuss and address the issue of sexuality in all its components.
Psychological support: Physical changes associated with a cancer treatment can include changes in how the body looks, menopausal symptoms, fertility problems etc.
The WCC has a team of psychologists offering patients, as well as their families, a dedicated space to find well-being in their personal life. These include services for patients of reproductive age interested in discussing topics related to fertility, pregnancy and contraception before, during and after being diagnosed with cancer. Also menopausal patients (spontaneous, surgical or due to cancer treatment) are offered a similar service for there particular needs.
The IEO Women's Cancer Center aims to fully take care of the well-being of women and that is why, together with functional rehabilitation, psychotherapy and physical health, as well as recovery procedures, personalized aesthetic treatments are offered by qualified personnel.
